“Wave after wave, each mightier then the last Till last, a ninth one, gathering half the deep” - Alfred, Lord Tennyson, “The Holy Grail”

Sorry about this weeks quote, I was looking forward to going back to work after my holiday.

At the top of this weeks show, Gareth and I chatted about my spell away in sunny Spain. Then we segued smoothly into a discussion about operating systems, if you can actually segue smoothly between those two subjects. Windows vs Mac OS and surprisingly Windows came out slightly worse.

Then it was on to these…

Bing – A Google killer from MS, I think this must be their third or fourth Google killer. Unsurprisingly Google is still robustly healthy, and with Bing’s launch MS haven’t really done enough to inflict more then a slight cold on everyone’s favourite search engine.

‘The pirates will always win’ – Don’t make stupid laws, or punish the honest consumer. A statement of common sense form the head of an ISP. Whatever next. Please let common sense reign amongst these people.

Its hip to be squared – A competitor to Wolfram|Alpha comes to us in the form of Google squared. Let battle comence.

The iPhone is shaking up the videogame business. – Is it a bird? is it a plane?… No its the iPhone, and its turning into the only gadget you’ll ever need to carry. Its distribution model, the quality of the graphics and the intuitive user interface. It all adds up to a knockout gaming platform. Challenging the established paradigm of DS and PSP et al.

The ninth wave – Google is bringing to us a whole new way of communicating Google Wave. More then just Gmail, it is an open, flexible, infinitely extensible and extremely ambitious, So its bound to fail.

The wait is over – The Palm Pre is no longer vapourware, it is hardware. Now, our American cousins, can see if its lives up to all that hype. Gareth promises an in depth review next week, or he might just fiddle with one in the store for a while. Either way we’ll know more next week.
